Blog Entry 1

I have taken a philosophical ethics class before and it resembles this class in many ways. This class deals with the technology side of ethics as the other one dealt with a wide variety of ethical situations. The things that I have been intrigues by in this class are talking about the illegal downloading of movies, music, and computer software. I think that is a huge deal in our nation and I just cannot see spending money on those things when you can get them for free even though it may be viewed as being wrong in the eyes of some. The government however has recently tried to cut down on these acts by presenting companies with a lawsuit. One company I can think of is limewire. They were once a organization that you could download music and movies off of. I think Tavani brought up great points in how people have patents and copyrights on music and movies. I believe that we should just follow in the ways of China and make it legal to download music to wherever we feel need be.
I have been conversing with my girlfriend over my new acquaintance with the prezi software. I told her about making a practice prezi and within the next week she brought to my attention that she had recently went over the information of how to put together a prezi presentation. I thought that was cool and out of the ordinary since she goes to Illinois State University and is learning the same things I am here at Milwaukee. However, she is in a totally different field of study, Entrepreneurship and Business Management, and I am an Information Studies major. She was intrigued in learning a different way of presenting a point other than just an old PowerPoint off of Microsoft Word. Her teacher in the class did not like the idea of the prezi however and her idea of presenting in this way was shot down so she did have to end up using a PowerPoint.
I think that learning ethics is good for everyday life, in such a way that we cannot take everything into perspective or for granted. In such a way, that our technology era is vastly growing and why not take into account the ways in which people have learned from their mistakes. You have to have proper ethics to deal with people, especially in the real world, where people can be taken advantage of. I have been pleased with the class so far and have learned more in depth regions of ethics throughout technology.
